Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Drops Landmark Conference Game Against Scranton

Anna Werner had two shots on goal while Emily Sullivan and Julia Hutsko added one shot apiece and Madison Welliver made four saves, but the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team relinquished a goal in the 70th minute and were unable to score in a 1-0 loss to Landmark Conference foe Scranton University Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove.

The River Hawks (11-3-2 Overall, 4-1-1 Landmark) controlled possession at the start of the contest, consistently holding the ball in the Royals (13-0-2, 6-0-0) end of the field.

Sullivan registered the first shot on goal for the River Hawks, but her header was saved.

Scranton created momentum at the end of the half as it began to regain possession, but neither team was able to score in the first half.

Early in the second half, Kate Cantrell and Hutsko created the best scoring chance for the River Hawks, as Hutsko made a long run into the box and Cantrell found her but the ball was deflected away.

The Royals would score the only goal of the game in the 70th minute off a set piece header that was tucked away past an outstretched Welliver.

Anna Werner had a shot saved in the 81st minute and Emily Sullivan fired a shot just high a few moments later, but the team was unable to score.

With one final chance on a corner kick in the final minute of action, the River Hawks sent every field player into the box, but the Royal were able to clear the ball away and cemented a 1-0 win.

Susquehanna honored senior members Kate Cantrell, Emily Sullivan, Haley Timko, Carly Smith, Kelly Tully, Emily Steinhilber and Emily Lefkowitz as well as Julia Hutsko (early graduation) prior to the match.

The River Hawks continue play Saturday, October 27th when the team takes on Drew in their final Landmark Conference regular season game. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in Madison, New Jersey.
