Emily Sullivan netted a goal in the 66
th minute while
Madison Welliver and the tough River Hawk defense preserved another shutout as the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team defeated Drew University 1-0 Saturday evening in Madison, New Jersey.
The River Hawks (12-3-2, 5-1-1) set the tone early, firing two shots in the first four minutes of action, forcing the Rangers goalkeeper to make saves in order to preserve the 0-0 tie.
The Rangers (6-9-3, 0-5-2) had three shots of their own in the opening ten minutes of play, but all of them missed the target.
The remainder of the first half saw one shot apiece from either side as the River Hawks held a 2-0 advantage with corner kicks.
With the game scoreless after 45 minutes of play, Susquehanna came out of the break with a new energy, creating several more goal scoring chances and beating Drew in all statistical categories.

Katie Beluch, Sullivan was able to finally put the ball in the back of the net after making a move past her defender and rifling a shot into the right side of the net to give the team the lead.
The defense stepped up over the final 25 minutes of play, with Welliver making one final save to keep the lead and cement the 1-0 win.
The River Hawks outshot the Rangers 10- 4 in the second half and held a slight corner kick advantage at 2-1. Hutsko led the team with three shots on goal. Welliver made two saves on the evening.
With the win, Susquehanna has clinched a second place finish in the Landmark Conference and will host Catholic in the first round of the playoffs.
The game is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Sassafras Field.
