Alex Graul scored a goal on an assist from
Kyle Trainor and
Kyle Speckhart made four saves in goal as the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team completed a 1-0 shutout victory over Misericordia University Wednesday evening at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
The River Hawks (3-11-2) registered the first shot of the game as
Jacob Butzler just missed the target wide, but the Cougars (5-10-1) would respond with the next two shots over the following fifteen minutes of action.
The remainder of the half would be a back and forth affair, with the Cougars taking a slight 6-4 shooting advantage into the break.
The River Hawks made a few halftime adjustments and came out firing in the second half.
Scott Misson had a header saved, followed by a blocked shot off the foot of Graul and a shot high by
Liam Fitzgerald.
The team was able to get on the board and take the lead in the 61
st minute as Trainor sent a low long ball into the box that Graul was able to run on to and flick past the charging Cougar goalkeeper.
The goal was Graul's second of the season and Trainor picked up his first assist on the year.
The rest of the game went on without a goal scored, but the River Hawks dominated ball possession and continued to be in attack mode. The team out shot Misericordia 12-2 in the half and the Cougars were unable to register any goal scoring opportunities.
Chris Naiman and
Maxfield Reed led the team with three shots.
The River Hawks close out Landmark Conference play Saturday as the team takes on Drew at 1 p.m. in Madison, N.J.
