Jenni Sabbak scored the lone goal for the River Hawks but the team gave up three early goals in the first half against Landmark Conference opponent Catholic as the Susquehanna University Field Hockey Team fell to the Cardinals 4-1 on Saturday at Cardinal Stadium in Washington D.C.
The River Hawks (5-7 Overall, 1-2 Landmark), fell behind the Cardinals (4-6, 3-0), and struggled to produce much offense in the first half as they were only able to get one shot on net in the opening 35 minutes of play.
The Cardinals capitalized on a slow start by the River Hawks and scored three goals in the opening 20 minutes of action to jump ahead.
Although Susquehanna went the rest of the first half without giving up a goal, the Cardinals scored again just a few minutes into the second half to extend the lead to 4-0.
In the 43rd minute, Jenni Sabbak was able to get the River Hawks on the board, scoring her 5th goal on the season.
Trying to carry off of her momentum, Hunter Pittman took a penalty corner from Vivian Simone and her shot was saved. The River Hawks hung in tough allowing only one goal in the second half, but the slow start was too much to make up and the team ultimately fell, 4-1.
Veronica Green saved four of the five attempts that she saw while in net. In the final twenty-five minutes, the River Hawks did not allow a goal.
The River Hawks return to action on Wednesday when they take on Juniata at 7 p.m. at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
