Madison Welliver had five saves including a diving grab early in the second half as the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team concluded a 0-0 tie against Landmark Conference opponent Catholic Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove.
The River Hawks (9-1-2 Overall, 2-0-1 Landmark) dominated the first half with possession until the final minutes when Catholic (6-3-3, 1-1-1) was able to gain some momentum into halftime.
The best scoring opportunity for Susquehanna came win the opening minutes of action, where a ball was sent in across the box to a streaking
Kate Cantrell, but it was just out of her reach in front of the empty net.
The sides each had seven shots over the opening 45 minutes of action.
The River Hawks improved in the second half after nearly seeing their shutout streak end in the opening minutes of play.
Catholic put a shot on goal off a volley from a cross and Welliver sprawled out to make a great diving stop to keep the score tied at zero.
Susquehanna outshot Catholic 6-3 in the second half and seemed poised for another overtime victory.
In the first overtime, Werner and Beluch each had shots hit the crossbar that could've potentially ended the game. Both shots were from distance and they both entered the field of play from the crossbar for potential rebound opportunities but the River Hawks were unable to put the ball in the net.
Each team fired one shot in the second overtime period and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
Anna Werner had six shots for the River Hawks and
Emily Sullivan added five.
The River Hawks continue Landmark Conference play Wednesday when they take on Juniata at 7 p.m. in Huntingdon.
