Men’s Soccer Falls in Double Overtime Against Gettysburg

Maxfield Reed registered five shots, Chris Naiman added two shots, and Matt Ellingworth had six saves but the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team lost a 1-0 contest in the final minutes of double overtime on a header from a corner kick against Gettysburg College Tuesday evening in Gettysburg.

The River Hawks (1-9-2) registered 12 shots, with five of them being on goal but the team was unable to put a shot in the net.

The defense stayed strong, as they have all year, but finally relinquished a goal to the Bullets (7-3-1) in the 108th minute of the contest.

Susquehanna created two scoring chances in the first half, one being a shot on goal by Kyle Trainer and another was a header by Reed that was saved by the Gettysburg goalkeeper.

The second half saw several more shots on goal, as the River Hawks registered seven over the 45-minute period.

Patrick Bresney, Aly Kenawy and Reed all had shots on goal in the half before the second half clock expired and Susquehanna went into its second straight overtime game.

The first overtime period went similarly to the first 90 minutes of action, but the Bullets finally scored in the closing minutes of the second overtime. The goal was scored on a header from an out-swinging corner kick and Gettysburg came out with a 1-0 win.

The River Hawks look to get back on track Saturday when they travel to Baltimore to take on Goucher at 1 p.m.
