Seth Callahan had 20 points and
Jaden Martin followed suit with 14 points as three other players scored in double digits and the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team defeated Lycoming College Tuesday evening at O.W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove.
The Warriors (3-1) scored the first bucket of the game and also led 4-2, but those were the only leads Lycoming would hold over the course of the contest.
With the game tied at four, Callahan nailed two jumpers sandwiched around two Martin free throws to give the River Hawks a 10-4 edge.
After a small run by Lycoming, the River Hawks created separation over the next ten minutes of action, outscoring the Warriors 19-5 as they took a 31-14 lead.
Lycoming powered back into the game over the final stretch of the first half and closed within 37-29 at the break.
Callahan had 13 points in the half while Martin added seven points, four rebounds and three steals.
With a comeback threat looming from the Warriors, the River Hawks hung in tough to maintain their lead in the first few minutes of the second period.
Similarly to the first half, the team went on a huge run less than five minutes in to make the lead more comfortable.
Bryce Butler scored five straight points,
Dominic Dunn followed him with five straight points of his own, and Martin capped off the explosive play by nailing a three-pointer.
Leading 58-37, the River Hawks relinquished six straight points to the Warriors, but went on another run to balloon the lead to 72-48.
Lycoming proceeded to make a game of it, trimming the lead to as low as seven points in the final minutes, but Susquehanna made most of its free throws and executed a side out-of-bounds play to a streaking Dunn to cement the victory.
Following Callahan and Martin's performances,
Zach Knecht, Butler (12 points apiece) and Dunn (11 points) also scored in double digits for the River Hawks.
Tyler Hoagland led the team with eight assists and Dunn led with seven rebounds.
Susquehanna continues its non-conference slate Wednesday, November 28
th against Misericordia. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
