Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | David Johnson

Hoagland Leads Men’s Basketball in Win over Albright

Tyler Hoagland netted 21 points, 12 of which came during a 20-5 run early in the second half, and the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team withstood a late rally by Albright to come away with a 69-67 victory Sunday afternoon in Reading.

How it Happened
  • The Lions (4-9) scored the first five points of the game before two free throws by Zach Knecht and a three-pointer by Seth Callahan tied the game.
  • The remainder of the first half went back and forth, with the River Hawks (7-4) taking a 29-22 lead on a Callahan breakaway layup. A three-point play by Bryce Butler gave the team a seven-point advantage once more, but the Lions went on a small run that included a three-pointer at the buzzer to trim the lead to 36-33.
  • Hoagland and the River Hawks started the second half with intentions on pulling away from the Lions. Using a 20-5 run, the River Hawks took a 56-38 lead. Hoagland scored 12 points and Matt LaCorte scored the other eight in just over seven minutes of action.
  • Albright came back with a run of its own, climbing back into the contest after scoring 13 unanswered points. Two big shots by Knecht gave the River Hawks much needed breathing room, but the Lions' Samuel Majekodunmi made the game close until the very end, scoring in a variety of ways.
  • After a pair of free throws were split by Hoagland, the River Hawks led 69-67 with 19 seconds left and needed a defensive stop to come out with the win. Getting exactly what it needed, a three-pointer by the Lions was off the mark and Susquehanna improved to 7-4 on the season.
