Men's Basketball Uses Huge Second Half to Take Down Wilkes

Bryce Butler scored 13 points and 11 other players tallied points as the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team forced 25 turnovers and used a 22-2 run to start the second half and defeated Wilkes University 88-64 Wednesday evening at O.W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove.

How It Happened
  • Butler scored six early points as the River Hawks took an 11-7 lead. A layup by Lukas Yurasits increased the advantage to 15-9 before Wilkes used a 6-0 run to tie the game.
  • The remainder of the half went back-and-forth and the Colonels led by as many as five points before Zach Knecht scored five unanswered points to close the half.
  • With the game tied at 34, the River Hawks used a 22-2 run to put the game out of reach in just six minutes. The team was able to make ten straight defensive stops during that stretch, turning its defense into offense on several occasions. Matt LaCorte hit two key transition three-pointers to help the team capitalize on its opportunities.
  • The remainder of the second half saw the River Hawks slowly increase the already wide margin. Joel Morris hit two shots from long distance and Mike Kempski made two free throws to extend the lead to its highest at 88-59 before Wilkes made a few baskets to close the game.
Inside the Box Score
  • Butler led the way with 13 points on only five shots taken from the field and he also led the team in steals with three.
  • Lukas Yurasits (12 points), Tyler Hoagland (11 points) and Zach Knecht (ten points) all scored in double figures for the River Hawks. Knecht led the team with seven rebounds.
  • Seth Callahan, Dominic Dunn and Dan Frauenheim each chipped in with eight points. Callahan had a team-leading five assists.
  • Susquehanna forced 25 turnovers and scored 24 points off of those turnovers.
  • Twelve River Hawks scored in total and the team had 40 bench points. Stu McAvoy had two blocked shots off the bench.
