Susquehanna Women’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Decision at Roanoke

Salem, Va. – Freshman guard Amanda Lemire (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton) landed on the All-Tournament Team Sunday evening on the final day of the Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic. The Susquehanna University women's basketball team (3-7) lost their sixth consecutive game, falling 76-48 to the host Roanoke College Maroons (9-3).

How It Happened

  • The River Hawks scored the first basket of the game and then extended their lead to 7-3 on a three-pointer by sophomore guard Nevin Hoenninger (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg). A Lemire triple kept SU ahead by four at 4:49 before Roanoke closed out the first period on a 9-3 to stake a 15-13 lead.
  • Roanoke broke the game open in the second with a 22-6 run to boast a 37-19 advantage with 3:38 remaining in the half. Susquehanna notched the final four points of the half to head into the locker room down 37-23.
  • The Maroons continued to bolster their lead in the second half, leading by as many as 22 four times in the third quarter.
  • RC posted its second 20-point frame of the game in the fourth, shooting 44.4-percent. Senior guard Bailey Trell (Paxinos, Pa./Lourdes) knocked down a three-point shot at 7:34 to put the deficit under 20 but the River Hawks would get no closer the rest of the way.

  • Susquehanna was held to a season-low 48 points as the River Hawks committed 21 turnovers, which led to 25 points for Roanoke.
  • Lemire was perfect from downtown as she knocked down all three-point shots, finishing 5-of-10 from the field while adding two assists.
  • Freshman Amalia Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) paced SU on the boards with a season-best seven rebounds while contributing four points.
  • Hoenninger ended the game with nine points, a season-high six caroms, and two steals.
  • Renee Alquiza led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting while the Maroons tallied 17 assists on 24 field goals made and registered a 38-33 rebounding margin as Kristina Harrel hauled in a game-best eight rebounds to go along with five points.
