Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Completes Shutout Victory Over Arcadia

Matt Ellingworth had an incredible diving save in the first half to preserve a 0-0 score and Kyle Trainor was able to tuck away a penalty kick early in the second half to give the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer Team a 1-0 lead they would never relinquish over Arcadia Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

After the opening 25 minutes of action resulted in limited scoring opportunities for either side, Ellingworth stretched out for a leaping save that was targeting the upper right corner of the net to keep the shutout alive.

The Knights (2-4) had six shots in the half, but could not capitalize on their opportunities.

The River Hawks (1-4-1) won the battle of possession in the first 45 minutes but only had two shots to show for it.

A foul in a cluttered penalty box during the 51st minute showed to be the difference in the game when Kyle Trainor was fouled during a set piece.

Trainor calmly stepped up to the ball and placed a shot into the bottom left corner of the net to give Susquehanna the lead.

The River Hawks continued to be the aggressors over the final 39 minutes of play, out possessing the Knights and making shots difficult for their strikers.

Arcadia took 13 shots to Susquehanna's six, but the River Hawks made those shots difficult. Ellingworth had five saves in net.

Susquehanna looks to continue their solid play Wednesday at 7 p.m. when they take on Wilkes at Sassafras Field.
