Lizzie Herestofa lead the team with 15 digs while
Sydney Portale and
Hannah Lyons added eight kills each as the Susquehanna University volleyball team defeated the University of Rochester in three sets Friday evening to start off the Hampton Inn River Hawks Classic at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove.
The River Hawks (7-6) won all three sets, taking down the previously undefeated Yellow Jackets (12-1) 25-19, 25-20, and 25-16.
Besides trailing early, Susquehanna dominated in all facets of the match, running away with every set.
Susquehanna went on two separate runs midway through the third set with a four point and five point outburst. The first was started by a ball handling error by the Yellow Jackets, and followed up by a service ace by freshman
Brooke Lacesa. The run continued on by a kill by
Hannah Lyons, and
Riley O'Dowd.
The second run started with a kill by junior
Caroline Beohm. Freshman
Kody Dillon and
Brooke Lacesa contributed on the run, each recording a kill.
Lindsey Pugh led the team with 30 assists. Herestofa added two aces.
The River Hawks continue play tomorrow against Frostburg State at 1:00 p.m. and Messiah at 5 p.m. at Orlando W. Houts gymnasium.
