Hannah Lyons recorded 22 kills and Lindsey Pugh handed out 55 assists to lead the Susquehanna University Volleyball team to a sweep of the two matches Saturday and the team championship at the Hampton Inn River Hawks Classic Saturday in O.W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove.
Lyons was named the MVP of the tournament and Pugh was named to the All-Tournament team.
Susquehanna (8-6) defeated previously unbeaten Rochester Friday and then downed Frostburg State, 3-0 and Messiah College, 3-0 to complete the weekend sweep.
Against Frostburg, the River Hawks won by set scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-16 in the early match and then capped the tournament with a three-set sweep of Messiah by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-16.
In the River Hawks first match Lyons lead the team with 12 kills with Sydney Portale and Kody Dillon each contributing seven kills. Pugh recorded 27 assists while Lizzie Herestofa led the defense with 19 digs.
In the second match Lyons lead the River Hawks with 10 kills. Riley O'Dowd and Portale each had nine kills. To add the 10 kills, Lyons also lead the team with five blocks. Pugh lead the River Hawks with 28 assists.
The River Hawks return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 26 as the River Hawks take on the visiting Gettysburg Bullets at 7:30 p.m. at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium.
