Emily DiGaetano made four saves for the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team Saturday afternoon but surrendered a goal on a penalty stroke 7:50 into the overtime period as Elizabethtown College escaped with a 1-0 win in the Landmark Conference opener at Elizabethtown.
Susquehanna (3-5 overall, 0-1 Landmark) held a 12-9 advantage in shots and led 12-7 in penalty corners but could not find the back of the cage in the loss.
The River Hawks had a pair of penalty corners four minutes into the overtime session and Hunter Pitman had a pair of shots nearly seven minutes into the extra session with one going wide of the cage and the second saved by the Blue Jays goalie.
Just over a minute later, Elizabethtown was awarded a penalty stroke and scored to end the game.
Susquehanna returns to action Wednesday night in a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup against Albright on Sassafras Field.
