Heather Casey each had a goal in the second half as the River Hawks held a 24-3 shots advantage while also holding a dominant 30-5 advantage in penalty corners as the Susquehanna University Field Hockey team topped Moravian College 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
The River Hawks (5-5 Overall, 1-1 Landmark) dominated in terms of ball control and shots on goal from the opening whistle.
The Greyhounds (3-7, 0-2) were held without a shot in the first half, but the defense highlighted by goalie Ashley Kunsman did not relinquish a goal over the opening 35 minutes, despite several penalty corners and goal scoring opportunities for Susquehanna.
The River Hawks continued to knock on the door in the second half and the persistence paid off.
Sabback was able to put the team on the board first when a loose ball in the box found her wide open in front of the net. The ball was in the air about thigh high and she was able to find the back of the net.
Casey doubled the lead in the 53
rd minute on another loose ball in the box. The goal was her second of the season and proved to be crucial for the River Hawks to pull out the win.
Although the team dominated the game, the Greyhounds pressured late and were able to capitalized on one it's three shots taken on the afternoon to trim the lead to 2-1.
Playing at a disadvantage (green card penalty), Susquehanna's defense held on for the 2-1 victory. Hunter Pittman lead the team with 10 shots, nine of which were on goal.
The River Hawks continue play this Wednesday when they take on Misericordia at 7 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
