Junior Matt Ellingworth made seven saves including five in the second half but Lycoming College scored on a long shot off a deflected shot to post a 1-0 win over the Susquehanna University Men's Soccer team Wednesday night on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.
Lycoming (2-0-1) held a 20-5 advantage in shot attempts and had an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. The teams played to a scoreless first half of action and Susquehanna (0-3-0) kept the Warriors off the scoreboard despite a 9-1 Lycoming edge in shots.
Early in the second half, after a corner kick in the first two minutes of play, Lycoming's Zach Raut picked up a loose ball off a deflection in the box and sent a hard shot into the open side of the goal for the 1-0 lead and the only goal of the game.
Susquehanna threatened late in the game and Joe Armstrong had the best opportunity with a shot from 10 yards out that was deflected wide of the goal.
The River Hawks return to action with a 5 p.m. game Saturday at Ursinus College.
