LaCorte Shines as Men’s Basketball Drops Tough Road Battle with Moravian

Matt LaCorte scored a career high 24 points on nine made field goals and added ten rebounds for his second double-double of the season, but the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team lost a lead late in the second half and fell to Moravian 86-81 Wednesday evening at Johnston Hall in Bethlehem.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (11-7 Overall, 4-3 Landmark) were able to take a lead early, with LaCorte, Bryce Butler and Zach Knecht all hitting shots in the early going. The team continued its strong play as the opening minutes went on, taking an 18-7 lead after Lukas Yurasits, Dan Frauenheim and Seth Callahan all jumped in on the early scoring.
  • The Greyhounds (12-6, 5-2) proceeded to go on a 15-0 run, re-claiming the lead at 22-18. The remainder of the half would go back-and-forth, with the Greyhounds taking a 41-37 lead into the locker room.
  • The second half started with Callahan and Butler making buckets before LaCorte made his presence felt. LaCorte made three of the next four baskets around a made shot by Dominic Dunn, and Susquehanna regained the lead at 53-50. The team continued strong play, ballooning its advantage to 61-52.
  • Moravian made a push with under nine minutes to play to tighten the game up, and eventually took the lead at 73-70 with just over three minutes to go. Two key free throws by Oneil Holder made it a two possession game, and the Greyhounds would keep their advantage between three and six points for the remainder of the contest. Callahan made a key shot from distance late, but Moravian made all of their foul shots to put this one out of reach and won, 86-81.
