Men’s Basketball Edged by Drew Despite Butler’s Career-High 28 Points

Bryce Butler scored a career high 28 points and added six steals while Zach Knecht notched another double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds, but the Susquehanna University Men's Basketball team lost a lead half way through the second half and fell to Drew 88-84 on Wednesday evening in Selinsgrove.

How It Happened
  • Seth Callahan scored the first points of the contest for the River Hawks (9-5 Overall, 2-1 Landmark) and the lead went back-and-forth in the opening minutes before Butler hit two three-pointers and Matt LaCorte scored on a tip-in to build a 14-9 advantage.
  • Susquehanna would maintain a lead for the majority of the half, with Drew (11-3, 3-0) tying the contest on a few occasions. Butler was scorching hot over the first 20 minutes of action, hitting all six shots he took from the field, including four from three-point land. Knecht also had eight points and six rebounds in the half and the team took a 41-38 lead into the locker room.
  • The second half opened with an 8-3 run by Drew that resulted in the Rangers taking the lead back at 46-44. A LaCorte three-pointer followed by two Knecht free throws and a Butler make from deep gave the River Hawks the lead once more.
  • Susquehanna maintained the lead for over half of the second period, but Drew made a run starting at the nine-minute mark to force the River Hawks to call a timeout. A 69-63 advantage quickly turned into a 77-71 deficit and Drew maintained that edge in the closing minutes despite the efforts of Dan Frauenheim and Lukas Yurasits to tie the score late.
  • Frauenheim was forced to miss a free throw with two seconds remaining, but Drew recovered the rebound and won 88-84.
