Volleyball Splits Weekend at Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Susquehanna University volleyball team split Saturdays tri-match against No. 9 Johns Hopkins University and Swarthmore College.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks claimed the 3-1 against the Swarthmore College Garnet in match one.  
  • In the first set, Susquehanna dominated the Garnet 25-15, putting up 14 kills the Swarthmore's five.
  • The Garnet were able to take set two 25-22, despite Susquehanna's 15 kills.
  • SU was able to take set three 25-18 behind 18 kills and a .517 attack percentage.
  • The River Hawks took down Swarthmore 25-16 in the fourth set to win the match 3-1.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Rosina Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) lead the match in kills with 20 while Sydney Portale (Glen Mils, Pa./Garnet Valley) was also in double digits with 14.
  • Senior captain Caroline Beohm (Lancaster, Pa. / Garden Spot) lead the team in digs with 19 while Lindsey Pugh (Bear, DE. / Caravel Academy) and Esposito were also in double digits with 15 and 11.
  • Veronica Kirchner (Drexel Hill, Pa. / Monsignor Bonner-Prendergast) had a team best five blocks.
  • Swarthmore's leaders were Mehra den Braven with 11 kills, Alyssa Nathan with 13 digs and Emma Morgan-Bennett with seven blocks.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (23-4) fell to undefeated No. 9 Johns Hopkins (23-0) in the second match Saturday.
  • The Blue Jays edged SU in the first set 25-21, recording 11 kills to Susquehanna's nine.
  • The River Hawks fought hard in the second set and were able to take the 15-12 lead but fell 25-19.
  • Hopkins took set three 25-22 after a tough battle with the River Hawks.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
  • Esposito led the team in kills with eight and had six service aces.
  • Lizzie Herestofa (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) collected a team-best 12 digs and Kirchner had a match best eight blocks.  
  • Simone Bliss lead the Blue Jays in kills with 12 while Nicole Hada recorded a team-best 19 digs.
