Amanda Lemire (Auburn, N.H./Pinkerton) and
Nevin Hoenninger (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) both put up double-digit scoring performances as the Susquehanna University women's basketball team opened up the 2019-20 campaign on the road Wednesday night. Susquehanna (0-1) hung tough with Johns Hopkins University (2-0), dropping a 74-65 decision to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament Second Round participant.

How It Happened
First Quarter
- The River Hawks started off with a 6-5 lead thanks to back-to-back jumpers by Lemire and junior guard Erin McQuillen (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) at 7:30. Johns Hopkins opened up a seven-point lead four times, including heading into the second frame with a 21-14 advantage as Emily Howie drained a three-pointer.
Second Quarter
- Hopkins stretched its lead to 11 early in the second as Diarra Oden and Erin Walsh both made two-point baskets. Lemire helped cut the deficit to 25-18 at 7:46 with a jumper before the Blue Jays closed out the half on a 14-10 run to take an 11-point lead into the locker room at halftime.
Third Quarter
- Susquehanna trimmed the gap to five at 5:51 as the River Hawks used a 10-5 run to tip off the third. Lemire had six of the team's 10 points in the run.
- The River Hawks would get no closer in the third as Johns Hopkins rebuilt a double-digit lead once again, ending the frame with an 11-5 run.
Fourth Quarter
- Hopkins would lead by as many as 20 with 7:21 remaining in the game. The River Hawks responded with an 11-0 run in a four-minute span to pull within 69-60 as Lemire had five points in the run. That's as close as SU would come as the Blue Jays held on for their second straight win.
Inside the Box Score
- Susquehanna shot 60.0-percent from the field in the second half and finished the game at 43.9-percent (23-53).
- The River Hawks also connected on 6-of-15 three-pointers while 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
- SU won the battle in the paint, 28-22, while out-earning the Blue Jays, 12-9, in second chance points.
- Johns Hopkins entered the season receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III Top 25 Coaches Preseason Poll.
- The Blue Jays posted 40.9-percent (27-66) from the floor, including 53.5-percent (8-15) in the first quarter, while making 12-of-27 (44.4%) from downtown.
- JHU benefitted from greatly from its bench, who contributed 24 points in the win.
Top Performers
- Lemire finished the night with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including going 3-of-4 from behind the three-point line. She also added three assists.
- Hoenninger matched career-highs of 16 points (6-of-9 from the floor) and seven rebounds while contributing a team-best three helpers.
- Senior Rachel Sweger (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) grabbed a career-best seven boards – all defensive – as well as chipping in a career-high two blocks and two points.
- Oden paced the Blue Jays in the win with a game-high 21 points while Howie (13 pts) and Walsh (10) also tallied 10+ points. Howie also hauled in a game- and team-best eight caroms.
