Baseball Falls to La Roche Despite Tuttle's Quality Start

Alex Burman and Justin Miller each registered three hits and Luke Tuttle went six strong innings for the Susquehanna University Baseball team, but the River Hawks relinquished several runs late and dropped an 11-4 decision to La Roche Sunday afternoon in Punta Gorda, Florida.

How It Happened

  • After a scoreless top of the first inning for the River Hawks (1-2), Tuttle made quick work of the Red Hawks (2-2), retiring three batters with just six pitches.
  • The first run of the game was plated by La Roche in the bottom half of the third inning on a ground ball single with a runner in scoring position, but Susquehanna countered with two in the top of the fourth as Anthony Dombrowski reached on an error with a runner at third and then Justin Miller scored from third on a double steal that fooled the Red Hawks into throwing to second base.
  • Neither team scored in the fourth, but La Roche tied up the score in the fifth and took the lead in the sixth at 3-2. With Nick Berger on base in the top of the seventh, Burman hit a ball into the gap to knock him in, but was erased trying to stretch to third base.
  • Following three runs in the seventh for the Red Hawks, Lance Welsh plated Steve Lorenz to cut into the lead in the top half of the eighth inning at 6-4, but La Roche essentially put the game away in its following turn at-bat, plating five runs before Susquehanna had a quiet ninth to end the game with an 11-4 final score.
