Baseball Drops Two in Port Charlotte

Craig Roumes had two hits in game one while Nick Berger and Ben Burman each had two hits in game two, but the Susquehanna University baseball team dropped two contests against Marietta and Arcadia by a score of 13-3 and 12-2 Monday afternoon in Port Charlotte.

How It Happened

  • Starter Jake Ramezzana threw a scoreless first inning, but the Pioneers (2-4) tallied four runs in the bottom of the second inning, before the River Hawks (1-4) cut the deficit in half on a Berger 2 RBI double that plated Craig Roumes and Thomas Borum.
  • Marietta had an answer in the fourth inning, with a two-run home run to dead center field to lead 6-2, before opening up a larger lead in the middle innings.
  • Trailing 10-2 in the sixth inning, Justin Miller grounded out for an RBI, but that was all the River Hawks could muster in runs, as the team hit the ball hard, but could not find a hole in the defense.
  • Game two was much of the same against Arcadia, with the Knights (3-3) dropping five runs on Susquehanna before the team batted in the first.
  • Will Carey came on in the fifth inning to give the River Hawks some much-needed life on the mound, but the score was 10-0 before the team scored its first runs on a Roumes sacrifice fly and an Adam Schreck single. When it was all said and done, Arcadia came away with a 12-2 victory.

  • Dillan Weikel closed out game two with two strong innings, looking sharp in the process and throwing just 15 pitches.
  • The River Hawks pounded 118 hits over the two games and hit the ball hard consistently, but were unable to get the key hits with runners in scoring position.
