Jackie Gore (Andover, N.J./Newton) became Susquehanna University's new career home run leader on Thursday as
Gore cracked her school record 16th homer and helped the River Hawk softball team to a split on its final day of action at The Spring Games in Florida. Susquehanna (5-6) posted a 10-3 victory over the College of Staten Island Dolphins (0-4) before falling 5-3 to Westminster (Pa.) College (5-3).

How It Happened
- Following a scoreless first inning, Susquehanna put up three runs on the board in the top of the second. Freshman infielder Kiara Bryant (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) and senior designated player Jill Ahrens (Clarence, N.Y./Sacred Heart) scored the first two thanks to a pair of errors by the Dolphin pitcher. Sophomore outfielder Katherine Fahsbender (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII), the No. 8 hitter, then made contact for a RBI double and brought home sophomore outfielder Kody Streeter (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), who reached on an error by the pitcher.
- After an uneventful third inning, SU stretched its lead to 4-0 as Gore, the No. 7 hitter for the River Hawks, connected for her record-setting leadoff solo shot to centerfield in the fourth.
- Susquehanna tacked on three more in the sixth as freshman outfielder Katie Welker (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) and junior pinch hitter Sam Duplissey (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) combined to drive in three runs. Duplissey drove in two runs with her second career double.
- The Dolphins avoided the shutout loss in the bottom of the sixth when Sierra Kaplanek hit a two-out RBI double.
- The River Hawks picked up their last three runs in the seventh as Welker, junior outfielder Ellen Smith (Breinigsville, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh), and junior captain Kasey Bost (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) each collected an RBI.
- CSI added two more in its half of the seventh to make it a 10-3 final.
Inside the Box Score
- The River Hawks scored a season third-best 10 runs on 13 hits with two errors in 34 chances. SU has now put up double-digit runs three times this season.
- This was Susquehanna's third game with multiple doubles as they collected three doubles.
- Staten Island, a 2018 NCAA Tournament participant, notched three runs on eight hits and committed four errors. The Dolphins had one double and one stolen base.
Top Performers
- Gore finished 2-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Her 16th career home run broke a three-way tie for first in the record books as Gore, Alyssa Cantalini '15, and Brennan Balfour '11 all had 15 dingers.
- Welker and freshman infielder Erin Bean (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional) each collected two hits as well while Welker and Duplissey drove in two runs each.
- Senior captain Alexa Gonzalez (Northport, N.Y./Northport) improved to 3-1 on the season as Gonzalez threw 6.0 innings, scattering six hits with one earned run, one strikeout and one walk. Sophomore Brooke Wiarda (Green Pond, N.J./Morris Knolls) pitched an inning of relief, giving up two unearned runs on two hits with one strikeout.
- Antoinette Galbo and Patricia Riches paced the Dolphins with 2-for-4 efforts while Jaclyn Kateridge dropped to 0-2 after allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Susquehanna 3, Westminster 5
How It Happened
- The River Hawks opened up with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Ahrens, the No. 5 hitter, drove in both runs with a one-out, bases-loaded single. Three SU batters were hit by Westminster's pitcher, Krystyna Burdelski.
- Following an uneventful second and third innings, Westminster put up five runs in the fourth with four hits and an error.
- Susquehanna took one back in its half of the fourth as Bean connected for a one-out RBI single to bring home junior outfielder Emily Lear (Elmira, N.Y./Thomas Edison), who got on base with a bunt single and then went to second on a fielder's choice.
- Burdelski limited the River Hawks to just one hit in the final three innings.
Inside the Box Score
- Susquehanna finished with three runs on six hits and made one error in its final game of the week.
- The Titans ended the game with five runs on eight hits, including a double, and WC was error-free.
Top Performers
- Lear paced the River Hawks offensively as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Ahrens finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.
- Freshman Katie Murphy (Havre de Grace, Md./C. Milton Wright) picked up her second loss in the pitching circle for SU as Murphy (1-2) struck out three and walked one in the complete game outing. She allowed five runs (all unearned) on eight hits.
- Haley Bedalota was perfect at the plate for Westminster as Bedalota went 4-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Burdelski fanned six batters as she moved to 3-1 on the season, giving up three runs on six hits.
