Selinsgrove, Pa. – The Susquehanna University softball team opened up the home portion of their 2019 schedule Sunday afternoon with a Landmark Conference twin bill against The Catholic University of America. Susquehanna (6-7, 1-1 LC) split the day with Catholic (7-9, 3-1 LC), dropping the first game, 4-1, before rebounding with a 6-4 victory in the nightcap.

How It Happened
- Senior captain Alexa Gonzalez (Northport, N.Y./Northport) threw four scoreless innings, scattering three hits to Catholic, before the River Hawks provided her with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore infielder Kody Streeter (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown), the No. 8 hitter, connected on a one-out double to centerfield to drive in freshman pinch runner Katie Welker (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township).
- The Cardinals responded with two runs in the top of the fifth behind a one-out RBI double from Sabrina Scott and a two-out RBI single from Allie Lajeunesse.
- Sophomore Brooke Wiarda (Green Pond, N.J./Morris Knolls) kept CUA off the scoreboard in the sixth but Catholic tacked on two more in the seventh thanks in part to a pair of SU errors.

- The River Hawks tallied a run on four hits and committed two errors in the first half of the doubleheader.
- Catholic connected on nine hits, including two doubles, for four runs while making one error.
Top Performers
- Four different SU players registered a hit as Streeter led the way with a 1-for-3 effort and an RBI.
- Gonzalez took the loss in the pitching circle, falling to 3-2 on the season as she pitched 4.1 innings with a season-best four strikeouts and gave up two runs on five hits.
- Wiarda hurled 2.1 innings, allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits.
- Lajeunesse paced Catholic in its third straight Landmark win by going 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI and a run. Scott improved to 5-4 on the season as she struck out three in the complete game win. She was also 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

How It Happened
- Catholic jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning as the Cardinals scored two runs on a pair of RBI ground outs by Scott and Juliet Lodes while Taylor Forgen came home on a wild pitch.
- The River Hawks answered right back in their half of the first as junior captain Kasey Bost (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), the No. 3 hitter, knocked in freshman catcher Katie Koch (West Milton, Pa./Lewisburg Area), who drew a leadoff walk, with a one-out double to left center. Bost then came home on an RBI single off the bat of senior designated player Jill Ahrens (Clarence, N.Y./Sacred Heart), trimming the deficit to 3-2.
- The Cardinals went up 4-2 in third when Scott hit a two-out solo shot over the left field fence.
- Susquehanna pulled within one once again in the fourth following sophomore infielder Madison Lane's (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) sacrifice fly to right field to score junior pinch runner Morgan Derrick (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge).
- SU then built a two-run lead with three runs in the sixth, taking advantage of several Catholic miscues, including a passed ball, two errors, and a wild pitch. In addition, Bost picked up her second RBI of the game with a two-out single to bring home freshman infielder Kiara Bryant (Allentown, Pa./Parkland).
- Sophomore Gabby Bubba (Jefferson, N.J./Pope John XXIII) then sealed the River Hawks' first conference win of the season by sitting down the Catholic lineup in order in the seventh.

- Susquehanna finished with six runs on six hits and made no errors for the third time this season.
- The Cardinals put up four runs on seven hits while committing two errors.
Top Performers
- Bost went 2-for-3 with two RBI, a run, and a stolen base while Lane finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.
- Bubba (1-0), who pitched the last out of the first game, registered her first win of the season as she threw 3.0 innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts, scattering just two hits.
- Freshman Katie Murphy (Havre de Grace, Md./C. Milton Wright) started the game in the circle for the River Hawks, allowing four runs on five hits with two strikeouts in 4.0 innings.
- Four different hitters made contact for Catholic while Scott (5-5) was saddled with the loss after giving up three runs (none earned) on two hits in the final two innings. Claire Sturek fanned five SU batters and gave up three runs on four hits in 4.0 innings.
