Ryan Monroy had a stellar seven inning shutout performance, and
Steve Lorenz hit the go-ahead home run in the 12
th inning after a late Cardinal comeback and the Susquehanna University Baseball team defeated Catholic 5-4 late Saturday night in Washington, D.C.
Â
How It Happened
Â
- Both starters were firing early, as Monroy kept pace with Catholic's (9-5 Overall, 2-2 Landmark) starter. The score remained tied into the fourth inning when Alex Burman scored on a passed ball and Peter Yarem scored on an RBI double by Lorenz to give the River Hawks (3-7, 2-1) a 2-0 lead.
- Monroy continued to dominate the strong Cardinals lineup, as the team tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh inning to extend the advantage.
- Catholic would make a push in the eighth inning and put together a four-run rally to take the lead, but Chris Corrado scored in the top of the ninth on a clutch single by Alex Burman to knot the score up at four.
- Following a shutout inning by Will Carey, Bobby Grigas came on and continued to put zero's on the scoreboard. Leading off the top of the 12th inning, Lorenz put a charge in a ball that left the park and the team took a 5-4 lead. Later in the inning, Grigas registered is first career at-bat in order to stay on the mound and walked.
