Baseball Drops Tough 13-Inning Contest to Moravian

Alex Burman hit a big two-run single, Chris Corrado added a late RBI single and five players recorded multi-hit games, but the Susquehanna University Baseball team fell to Moravian 7-6 in a back-and-forth 13 inning affair Sunday afternoon in Bethlehem.

How It Happened
  • The game started off well for the River Hawks (7-10 Overall, 5-3 Landmark), who went ahead 1-0 on a Ben Burman RBI single that scored Nick Berger.
  • The bats would then go silent as Moravian's (11-7, 7-2) starting pitcher would go seven strong innings. The Greyhounds proceeded to push across three runs in the middle stages of the game to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The eighth inning saw Susquehanna chip into the lead with a run on an RBI single by Peter Yarem and the team would take the lead in the ninth with three runs. Burman and Corrado hit back-to-back RBI hits to take a 5-3 advantage into the bottom of the ninth inning.
  • Moravian would fight back, pushing across two run in the bottom of the inning to send the game into extra innings.
  • The following innings saw the Greyhounds responding to the pushes the River Hawks would make. Corrado had another huge hit to give the team a 6-5 lead, but that would be short-lived.
  • After a single run in the bottom of the 11th to tie the game at six, Moravian scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly to come out victorious. The score started with a leadoff double and the runner advanced to third on a wild pitch before the ball hit to the outfield brought home the runner.
  • Susquehanna ended up taking one of three games on the road, with Moravian winning the last two in extra innings.

Inside the Box Score
  • Nick Berger, Burman, Steve Lorenz, Corrado and Yarem all put together multi-hit games. The team had 16 hits altogether.
  • The River Hawks pitched by committee, with no one going more than four innings. Evan McKenna had an impressive seventh inning, striking out the side to get out of a jam.
  • Ian Csensits recorded three hits for the Greyhounds, and also scored the winning run.
