Pitching Continues Strong Play as Baseball Splits Road Doubleheader with Moravian

Ryan Monroy, Will Carey and Bobby Grigas combined to keep the Greyhounds to two runs in game one and Nick Berger had a huge game two as the Susquehanna University Baseball team split a doubleheader with Moravian 5-3, 4-5 (11 innings) Saturday afternoon in Bethlehem.

How It Happened

  • The story of game one for Ryan Monroy was bend, don't break as he gave up seven hits in 5 innings of work but only relinquished two runs to keep the River Hawks (7-9 Overall, 5-2 Landmark) firmly in the game.
  • Susquehanna scored the first three runs of the contest, an advantage they'd never relinquish. Justin Miller drove home the first run of the game on a groundout to bring in Peter Yarem and Craig Roumes followed that with an RBI single before Chris Corrado scored on an error.
  • The Greyhounds (11-9, 6-2) bounced back with two runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning to cut into the lead, but the River Hawks added some insurance in the fifth and sixth innings on RBI by Ben Burman and Anthony Dombrowski, which proved to be enough.
  • Leading 5-2, Suesquehanna gave up a lone run in the eight, but Bobby Grigas closed it out and the team took home a 5-3 victory.
  • Game two saw the River Hawks take a 2-0 lead and have a chance to tack on more runs, but Moravian did a solid job of limiting the damage.
  • The Greyhounds added two runs in the fourth and a single run in the fifth to take the lead, but Susquehanna took that lead right back on a Nick Berger home run and RBI single.
  • Moravian scratched across a run in the ninth inning to tie the score at four and shut down the River Hawks in extra innings to squeak out a split, and the team settled for one conference win Saturday afternoon.

Inside the Box Score

  • Both Ryan Monroy (win) and Tyson Thrush put together solid showings in today's games. Grigas earned the save in game one.
  • Dombrowski put together a multi-hit game in game one as Justin Miller, Nick Berger, Steve Lorenz and Alex Burman did the same in game two.
  • The River Hawks stand at 5-2 in conference play, good enough for solo third.
  • Three players had multi-hit games for the Greyhounds in the game two win.
