Baseball Takes Down Scranton to Win Fifth Straight

Five River Hawks recorded multi-hit games and four pitchers avoided a big inning as the Susquehanna University Baseball team resumed a contest from March 16 and defeated Scranton 10-6 Wednesday afternoon at Harry Bollinger Field in Selinsgrove. The victory is the team's fifth straight win.

How It Happened
  • The game resumed with the score tied at one in the bottom of the second inning, and the River Hawks (12-11 Overall, 9-3 Landmark) struck first in a big way in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Peter Yarem got it started with a huge bases clearing double with three runners on, to take a 4-1 advantage. Justin Miller added an RBI single two batters later to bring in Yarem.
  • Trailing 5-1, Scranton (10-14, 6-6) answered with two runs in the top half of the fourth inning to cut the lead in half, but Susquehanna put three back on the board in the home half. Alex Burman and Steve Lorenz each had booming extra base hits in the frame.
  • The Royals made it a game in the fifth and seventh innings, cutting the edge to 8-6, but a big RBI double by Miller in the seventh and an RBI double by Nick Berger gave the team some breathing room.
  • Nathan Madden and Will Carey pitched clean innings and the River Hawks prevailed 10-6.
Inside the Box Score
  • Anthony Dombrowski led the way with three hits for the River Hawks. Alex Burman, Peter Yarem, Nick Berger and Justin Miller all added two hits. Yarem had three RBI while Lorenz, Burman and Miller added two.
  • Four pitchers combined to keep the Royals from scoring in bunches. Madden and Carey led the way with shutout innings. Madden had two strikeouts.
  • The River Hawks were a perfect two of two in stolen bases and now have 51 on the season, 27 more than their opponents.
  • Ian McIntosh had two hits and two RBI to lead the Royals in the loss.
