Susquehanna Softball Sweeps Penn College in Non-Conference Action

Selinsgrove, Pa. – The Susquehanna University softball team recorded their second sweep of the season on a windy Tuesday afternoon. Susquehanna (11-10) stepped out of Landmark Conference action and picked up 16-4 (in five innings) and 8-2 victories over the visiting Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology (11-11).

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks opened up with five runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back in rolling to the 12-run victory.
  • Susquehanna cruised to a 13-0 advantage in the first three innings before the Wildcats put two on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third.
  • SU tacked on three more runs in the fourth while Penn College got one back in its half of the fourth.
  • The River Hawks were denied in the fifth as PCT added one more in the bottom of the fifth for the 16-4 final.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Susquehanna scored a season-best 16 runs on 15 hits and four Wildcat errors.
  • The River Hawks hit six extra-base hits, including three triples.
  • Penn College's four runs came off of four hits.
 
Top Performers
  • Sophomore infielder Kody Streeter (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) paced the offense with a career-high three hits as Streeter went 3-for-3. Additionally, Streeter drove in two runs and scored twice.
  • Senior designated player Jill Ahrens (Clarence, N.Y./Sacred Heart) and infielders Erin Bean (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills) and Kiara Bryant (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) each picked up two hits while Ahrens and senior Jackie Gore (Andover, N.J./Newton) brought home two runs.
  • Junior Amanda Seckinger (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown) kept her undefeated streak alive as Seckinger moved to 4-0 on the season after scattering three runs (all earned) on three hits and two walks in 3.1 innings.
  • Olivia Hemstock paced the Wildcats in the first game with a 2-for-3 effort, batting in one run and scoring another.

How It Happened
  • Susquehanna jumped out to another big lead in the nightcap, owning a 5-0 advantage after two innings of play. Highlighting the first two innings were a pair of RBI doubles off the bats of junior captain Kasey Bost (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and sophomore outfielder Katherine Fahsbender (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII).
  • The Wildcats closed the gap to 5-1 in the bottom of the third thanks to an RBI single by Kylie Schreiner.
  • Following a scoreless fourth inning, each side scored a run in their half of the fifth for a 6-2 River Hawk margin through five full innings of action.
  • SU ended the game by notching a run in each of the final two innings.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • For the seventh time this season, the River Hawks collected double-digit hits as SU scored eight runs on 12 hits and two Penn College errors.
  • In this game, Susquehanna connected on six extra-base hits, including triples by Ahrens and Fahsbender.
  • Penn College tallied two runs on seven hits and two SU errors.
 
Top Performers
  • Junior outfielder Emily Lear (Elmira, N.Y./Thomas Edison) and Fahsbender both went 2-for-3 at the plate while Ahrens and Bost each had a 2-for-4 effort.
  • Ahrens brought in two runs while Bost and Fahsbender each crossed home plate twice.
  • Sophomore Gabby Bubba (Jefferson, N.J./Pope John XXIII) threw her first complete game of the season as Bubba struck out a career-best six batters against only one walk. She gave up two runs (none earned) on seven hits.
  • Hemstock and Schreiner each had two hits for the Wildcats while Schreiner tallied two RBI.
