Vilardi, Heimer Help Women’s Lacrosse Power Past Juniata

Mary Vilardi scored three goals and tallied four assists and Alison Heimer scored a season-high four goals and the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team won its first Landmark Conference game of the season with a 17-9 victory over Juniata Wednesday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove, Pa.

How It Happened
  • Nicole Hauck got the scoring going early for the River Hawks (5-7 Overall, 1-3 Landmark) on a feed from Vilardi and Helena Woytovich scored off a pass from Kaitlin Homberg to take a quick 2-0 lead.
  • The Eagles (6-8, 0-4) responded with two goals of their own to tie the score but Susquehanna would then go on to score four straight goals to lead 6-2. Heimer, Katie Hoerman, Christine Hoerman and Woytovich all scored unassisted goals over that stretch, but Juniata would come back once again and trim the lead to 7-4 at the half.
  • After a few goals by each side to open the second period, the River Hawks went on a critical 6-0 run to put this one away, with Vilardi and Christine Hoerman each netting two goals. Hauck and Heimer each added one as well.
  • Juniata would score three of the final five goals of the contest, but it was too little too late and the River Hawks walked away with an important Landmark victory.
