Burman’s Six Hits, Eight RBI Back Monroy’s Gem as Baseball Routs Juniata

Alex Burman went 6-for-6 with a home run and eight RBI and Ryan Monroy fanned 13 batters en route to a complete game shutout as the Susquehanna University Baseball team scored early and often to defeat Juniata 17-0 Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove. The win is the team's eighth straight victory over a Landmark Conference opponent.

How It Happened
  • Monroy retired the side around a two-out hit in the top of the first inning before the River Hawks (16-12 Overall, 13-3 Landmark) went to work. Anthony Dombrowski reached on an infield single and advanced to second after a stolen base. Following the first of many hits by Alex Burman, Ben Burman got the first RBI of the afternoon with a sacrifice fly.
  • The Eagles (10-22, 1-12) would remain in the game with a strong second inning, but Susquehanna plated three more runs in the bottom of the third. Following a single by Craig Roumes and a double by Nick Berger, Alex Burman cracked a three-run home run over the right-center field fence to give the team some breathing room.
  • Monroy continued his dominance on the bump, and the River Hawks blew this one open in the bottom of the sixth inning, chasing Juniata's starting pitcher and plating seven more runs. Justin Miller, Roumes, Dombrowski, Alex Burman, and Steve Lorenz all picked up hits as the team made a full rotation of the lineup.
  • Susquehanna scored three more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to extend the advantage to 17-0. Burman did most of the damage himself, adding two more RBI doubles. Berger also had a two-run double.
  • The story switched over to Monroy in the closing innings, who dominated the Eagles lineup. Eight of his final nine outs were strikeouts as he slammed to door shut in this one. The 17-0 victory improved Susquehanna to an impressive 13-3 Landmark Conference record.
Inside the Box Score
  • Burman saw the ball well all day, hitting it to all fields. Over the course of his 6-for-6 game, he finished a triple shy of the cycle. Ten runs were scored off of his bat (two scored on errors) alone.
  • The team pounded out 18 hits, with Dombrowski, Berger, Lorenz and Roumes also contributing multi-hit games.
  • Monroy continued to impress, only walking one batter (in the ninth inning) compared to his 13 strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win of the season.
  • Juniata's Jake Swank led the way for the Eagles with three hits.
