Defense Strong for Women’s Lacrosse in Win Over Immaculata

Libby Dex made 14 saves while Brooke Klair had two goals and three assists, and the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team used a strong first half to defeat Immaculata 13-8 Tuesday afternoon at Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (7-8) struck first with a goal 41 seconds into the contest, with Kaitlin Homberg scoring off a feed from Katie Hoerman, but the Mighty Macs (6-9) answered with a goal a minute later.
  • Several minutes went by without a score, but Susquehanna would then attack with four straight to break it open early. Immaculata then scored two goals in response, but then Steph Dowling and Kathrina Demaio (two goals) made it 8-3 at the break.
  • The second half got more physical, with Immaculata making a push early in the period. With the score trimmed to 8-6, Demaio scored two huge goals to make the lead 10-6, and Dowling capped it off by scoring a free position goal to make it 11-6.
  • The Mighty Macs would score twice more, but the River Hawks would score twice as well over the closing minutes and win this one 13-8. Nicole Hauck and Dowling netted the final goals for the River Hawks.
Inside the Box Score
  • Demaio led the way with four goals for the River Hawks, with Dowling scoring three. Klair led the team in points with five altogether.
  • Katie Hoerman picked up four ground balls and had four draw controls to lead the team. Alison Elf caused three turnovers.
  • Libby Dex made 14 saves for the River Hawks to help keep the Mighty Macs in single figures.
  • Bailey Krewson scored four goals to lead Immaculata. Molly Gallagher collected six draw controls.
