Baseball Falls in Doubleheader Action to Ithaca

Alex Burman had four hits on the afternoon and Ryan Monroy threw five strong innings in game one, but the Susquehanna University Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Ithaca 7-1, 18-13 Saturday afternoon in Selinsgrove. Ithaca (25-7) received 16 votes in d3baseball.com's latest rankings.

How It Happened
  • In game one, Ithaca sprinkled single runs throughout the game, with the first coming in the second inning on a bases loaded walk. The Bombers would score in the third, fifth and sixth innings to extend the advantage to 4-1.
  • The River Hawks (17-14) made the score 4-1 in the bottom half of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Ben Burman to drive in Nick Berger, but Ithaca added three runs in the seventh inning to put Susquehanna away, 7-1.
  • Game two started poorly for the River Hawks, with the Bombers scoring a run in the first inning, following that effort with a hit parade in the second inning. When it was all said and done, Susquehanna trailed 14-0 after two innings of play.
  • The River Hawks would make this one a game, and in a hurry. The team put a five-spot on the board in the third inning, followed by one in the fourth and six in the fifth. The Bombers scored two runs over that time, but the lead was trimmed to 16-12 with four innings remaining.
  • Unfortunately for the River Hawks, the bats eventually ran out of steam and the team fell 18-13. Berger drove in the final run of the contest with an RBI double to bring in Alec Ranck.
Inside the Box Score
  • Alex Burman upped his season batting average to .397 after a four-hit day. In game two, Steve Lorenz, Berger, Alex Burman, Ben Burman and Justin Miller all recorded multi-hit games.
  • Ryan Monroy (five innings, three runs) and Will Carey (three innings, one run) led Susquehanna on the mound today.
  • Alec Ranck reached base three times in game two, recording a hit and two walks. Lorenz and Craig Roumes picked up stolen bases.
  • Ithaca's Sam Little had four hits and six RBi to lead the Bombers in game two.
