Miller Clutch, Grigas Dominant as Baseball Completes Three Game Sweep Over Elizabethtown

Justin Miller broke a 7-7 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single and Bobby Grigas earned the win and the save as the Susquehanna University Baseball team pulled off a regular season sweep of Elizabethtown Sunday afternoon in Selinsgrove.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (10-11 Overall, 8-3 Landmark) struggled in the early going, as it took some time to figure out the Blue Jays' starter. Elizabethtown (7-18, 1-8) scored first, plating two runs in the top of the second inning.
  • Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the bats came alive for the River Hawks, as Ben Berman plated Alex Burman to start the rally. Next, Steve Lorenz continued his hot hitting with an RBI double down the left field line.
  • Chris Corrado followed that up with a two-run single (three runners scored on the play due to an error) to take a 5-3 advantage into the fifth and that quickly became 7-3 after six.
  • Nathan Madden came on in relief and pitched well into the eighth inning, but the Blue Jays smacked a three-run home run and hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
  • Bobby Grigas came in and shut down the Blue Jays to give the bats a chance to win the game and Miller hit a solid single to center field to plate Lorenz to go ahead 8-7 before Grigas shut the door and the team came away with its third straight win.
Inside the Box Score
  • Miller recorded the only multi-hit game for the River Hawks, going 2-for-3 on the day with a walk. Anthony Dombrowski, Alex Burman, Ben Burman, Lorenz and Corrado each added a hit.
  • Besides the mistake in the eighth inning, Madden came on and gave the team some stability in the middle innings, and recorded six strikeouts in the process.
  • Grigas threw two shutout innings to hold the Blue Jays bats in check. The team did not make an error and only committed one over the three games.
  • Andrew Fisher had two hits and two RBI for the Blue Jays in the loss.
