Burman Brothers Pace Baseball as Team Wins Fourth Straight

Alex Burman, Ben Burman and Peter Yarem all had big days at the plate while Sean Rodriguez impressed with a quality start that included nine strikeouts and the Susquehanna University Baseball team escaped a few rough frames to defeat Messiah 13-6 in ten innings. The River Hawks scored seven runs in the top of the tenth inning to run away with an important game heading into a conference matchup with Scranton Wednesday.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (11-11) put up a four spot in the top of the first inning to immediately take control of the game. Ben Burman drove home Alex Burman before Adam Schreck added a two-run single and Evan Knapp contributed an RBI single.
  • The Falcons (9-16) stole two bases in the bottom of the inning and scored a run to creep closer, but Susquehanna would control the bats in large part to Sean Rodriguez over the middle innings.
  • The score would remain the same until the fifth inning, where the River Hawks added two more runs on back-to-back RBI singles from Ben Burman and Yarem added to the advantage.
  • Messiah would tack on one more run on Rodriguez before getting to the bullpen. A 6-2 lead became 6-5 after seven innings and 6-6 at the end of nine innings, so this one went into extra innings.
  • Susquehanna spent no time taking care of business in extra innings, pouring it on for seven runs in the top of the tenth. Alex Burman brought in Knapp and Eric Rahn to start it off. Luke Tuttle followed that with an RBI single, Steve Lorenz added to it and Yarem hit a double to cap off the scoring.
  • Dillan Weikel closed out the game to secure the 13-6 victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Alex Burman led the way with four hits, two RBI and three runs scored. Ben Burman went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and Yarem added 3 RBI on two hits. Adam Schreck went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI as well.
  • Rodriguez settled down after a slow first inning to dominate the Falcon lineup. He finished with a line of six innings pitched with two runs allowed and nine strikeouts.
  • Ryan Hentschel recorded three hits on the day to lead Messiah.
