Damiano Stars as Baseball Takes Down Keystone

Brendan Damiano threw seven strong innings with seven strikeouts, Steve Lorenz had four hits and two RBI, and Justin Miller added two hits and two RBI for the Susquehanna University Baseball team in an 11-2 victory over Keystone College Wednesday afternoon in Selinsgrove. The River Hawks maintained a tight 3-2 edge for a majority of the contest before a huge seven-run seventh inning blew this one open.

How It Happened
  • Following a strong first inning by Damiano, the River Hawks (19-15) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Lorenz to drive home Nick Berger. Unfortunately, a double play with bases loaded erased the chance of opening this one up early.
  • The Giants (19-13) responded quickly with two runs in the top of the second after loading the bases with no one out. Damiano did a great job of limiting the damage, which paid off immediately.
  • Susquehanna tied the score up at two in the third inning when Alex Burman knocked a long home run to right field and a Berger RBI single gave them a lead.
  • The score would remain at 3-2 over the middle innings until a huge seventh inning gave Susquehanna some much needed breathing room. Adam Schreck drove home Miller to get things going then RBI Lorenz, Ben Burman and Miller made this one quickly get to 11-2. Craig Roumes also reached base on an error by the third baseman.
  • Following Damiano's solid outing, Evan McKenna and Dillan Weikel combined to get the last six outs and the River Hawks won their second straight game.
Inside the Box Score
  • Lorenz led the bats with four hits and two RBI. He hit two doubles, one of which was less than a foot from going over the fence. Miller had two hits and two RBI.
  • Alex Burman was the only other River Hawk with a multi-hit game, but seven players picked up a hit in the game and every player to hit reach base.
  • Damiano earned his first win of the season, throwing a very economical seven innings with just 96 pitches.
  • Ryan Callahan had two hits and an RBI to lead the Giants.
