Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Baltimore, Md. – Senior first baseman Ben Burman (Wallingford, Pa./Episcopal Academy) connected on four hits Saturday afternoon to lead the Susquehanna University baseball team on the second day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Tournament Regional hosted by Johns Hopkins University.
 
After winning its NCAA tournament opener on Friday afternoon, Susquehanna (24-18) saw its 2019 campaign come to a close with a 12-2 loss to No. 21/22 Johns Hopkins University (32-11) in the winners' bracket before falling 7-4 to No. 7/8 The College of New Jersey (33-10) in the elimination game.

How It Happened

• Johns Hopkins scored the first run in the top of the second inning but the River Hawks evened it up on an RBI single by junior outfielder Justin Miller (Rockaway, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).
• A solo home run gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 advantage and they broke it open in the fifth, scoring six runs on three hits to make it 8-1.
• At that point, the River Hawks finished the rest of the game using as few pitchers as possible and eventually fell 12-2. Miller had another RBI hit in the bottom of the ninth to bring home B. Burman, who led off the inning with a double to leftfield.

 
Inside the Box Score

• Miller paced the SU at the plate with three singles and two RBI while junior designated hitter Alex Burman (Wallingford, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and B. Burman finished with two hits each.
• B. Burman connected on a double and scored a run.
• Freshman Dillan Weikel (Beaver Springs, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) was saddled with the loss as the River Hawk starter allowed seven runs (six earned) on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts.

• Mike Eberle and AJ King each had two hits to lead Johns Hopkins offensively with King connecting on a pair of doubles for two RBI and two runs scored. Jack Bunting picked up the complete game victory, fanning four with no walks and limiting Susquehanna to two runs on 10 hits.

How It Happened

• TCNJ started things off similarly to Hopkins, scoring three runs in the top of the second inning.
• Down 5-0, the River Hawks plated a run in the bottom of the fifth with a run-scoring hit from junior second baseman Anthony Dombrowski (Pompton Plains, N.J./Don Bosco Prep).
• Susquehanna added three more runs in the sixth to close the gap to 5-4. Two runs scored off the bat of Miller, whose fly ball was lost in the lights and allowed B. Burman and sophomore outfielder Steve Lorenz (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa./William Penn Charter) to cross home plate. Freshman Adam Schreck (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) then roped a run-scoring double to bring home Miller.
• David Cardona III gave the Lions a 6-4 lead in the seventh with his second home run of the weekend before the game was stopped for a lightning delay at 8:39 p.m. The delay lasted for an hour and 44 minutes.
• After the delay and a 20-minute warm-up, Matt Giacose kept his team in front by two as Giacose robbed Schreck of a three-run bomb with a catch at the right field fence and then completed the double play by getting the runner at second in the eighth.
• Thomas Persichetti's fifth dinger of the season to lead off the ninth handed TCNJ a three-run cushion.
• The River Hawks kicked off the ninth with back-to-back singles before the offense stalled with a double play and a strikeout.

 
Inside the Box Score

• Dombrowski went 3-for-5 with an RBI to lead Susquehanna while B. Burman, Schreck, and junior third baseman Chris Corrado (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe) each tallied two hits.
• Freshman Ryan Monroy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) pitched 3.0 innings before being relieved by junior Bobby Grigas (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill). Monroy allowed four runs on eight hits with one strikeout for the loss.
• Grigas fanned six Lion batters, walked two, and gave up two runs on three hits in 4.1 innings of work. Sophomore Will Carey (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) came in after the weather delay and held TCNJ to one run on one hit in the final 1.2 innings.
• Andrew Rowan earned the win on the mound for the Lions, yielding four runs (none earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts. Dylan Crowley picked up his sixth save with 1.0 inning of scoreless actions, surrendering just two hits.
