River Hawk Volleyball Dominates Day Two at Sea Gull Classic

SALISBURY, Md. – The Susquehanna University volleyball team blanked both Thiel College and Muhlenberg College on the second day of the Salisbury University Sea Gull Classic Saturday afternoon. First-year outside hitter Rosina Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) and junior right-side hitter Sydney Portale (Glen Mils, Pa./Garnet Valley) shined for the River Hawks with 20 kills apiece.

How It Happened
  • The River Hawks (3-1) outscored Thiel (1-2), 47.5-26, to claim a 3-0 victory.
  • In the first set, Susquehanna dominated with a 25-18 triumph, recording 14 kills and a .600 attack percentage as a team.
  • Thiel was unable to keep up with the River Hawks in set two as Susquehanna clinched a 25-8 win.
  • Susquehanna again dominated, notching 12 kills to just three by the Tomcats to take set three.

  • Portale led the team against Thiel in kills with nine while sophomore Kody Dillon (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) tallied seven and Esposito had six.
  • Senior setter Lindsey Pugh (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) dominated all players with 26 assists while junior libero Lizzie Herestofa (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and senior captain Caroline Beohm (Lancaster, Pa./Garden Spot) recorded 14 digs each.
  • Thiel's leaders were Brie Bialota with six kills, Courtney Grubbs with 14 assists, and Alexis Orton with 17 digs.

How It Happened
  • Susquehanna claimed the three-set victory quickly, outscoring Muhlenberg 60-28.
  • The River Hawks dominated the first set with 16 kills and an attack percentage of .343 to the Mules' 8.
  • SU had 14 kills to Muhlenberg's two in the second set to claim a 25-12 victory.
  • The Mules posed a threat in the third set but Susquehanna ultimately took set three, 25-21.

  • Esposito again was a bright spot with 14 kills while Portale was also in double digits with 11 kills.
  • Pugh collected a match-best 35 assists while Herestofa tallied a team-best 14 digs.
  • Emma Eglinton finished the match with 17 assists while Maya Illovsky put up a team-best 11 digs.
