Second-Half Goal Lifts Muhlenberg Past Susquehanna Women’s Soccer

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A second-half penalty kick by Muhlenberg College proved to be the difference as the Susquehanna University women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season Sunday afternoon. The River Hawks (1-1) came up short in a 1-0 loss to Muhlenberg (2-0).

How It Happened
  • The two sides played to a scoreless halftime as Susquehanna notched a 3-2 edge in shots behind on target shots by sophomores Marley Clendenin (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) and Casey Grehan (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert).
  • Both teams came out strong early in the second half as SU fired off two shots while the Mules earned two corner kicks and took a wide shot in the first 10 minutes of the half.
  • Following a trip in the penalty box, Alyssa Rose stepped up to the penalty spot and converted the PK for the game's only score.
  • Senior captain Jenny Charles (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) gave the River Hawks a quality chance in the 82nd minute but Libby Juliano was up to the task.
  • SU garnered a corner kick in the 87th minute but could not generate any offensive momentum.

  • The River Hawks finished the match with a 10-6 shot advantage (4-3 shots on goal) while Muhlenberg picked up a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
Top Performers
  • Clendenin and Grehan collected three shots each while junior captain Madison Welliver (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) made a save in the first half. Sophomore Chloe Wieczkowski (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) started the second half and finished out the game for SU.
  • Juliano recorded four saves in Muhlenberg's second straight win.
