River Hawk Men’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Lebanon Valley

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Sophomore goalie Kyle Speckhart (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) made four saves Wednesday night as the Susquehanna University men's soccer team came up short in a 2-0 non-conference loss to regionally-ranked Lebanon Valley College. This is Susquehanna's (1-3-0) second straight loss while LVC improves to 2-1-1 on the season.

How It Happened
  • Braydon Shuck put Lebanon Valley on the scoreboard early as Shuck dribbled in the right side of the penalty box and finished a low shot into the lower left corner just three minutes into the game.
  • The River Hawks outshot LVC, 5-3, in the first half and owned a 3-0 margin in corner kicks but could not put one past Sean Quirk, who came up with three first-half saves.
  • The Flying Dutchmen would head into halftime with a 2-0 lead following a quick give and go between Lucas Strange and Noah Resuta with Strange finishing for his first goal of 2019.
  • Susquehanna once again took more shots than the visitors in the final 45 minutes and earned three corner kicks with the River Hawks' one quality chance coming off the foot of junior Kyle Trainor (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) in the 59th minute.
  • Speckhart turned away three shots in the second half to keep it a two-goal game.
  • Six yellow cards were given out in the final 20 minutes as the game increased in physicality.

  • SU owned the advantage in the statistical categories with a 12-4 (4-6 SOG) shot margin and a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.
 
Top Performers
  • Speckhart finished with a season-high four saves while junior forward Aaron Skelly (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) and sophomore midfielder Joe Armstrong (Lambertville, N.J./South Hunterdon) led the team with three shots each.
  • The Flying Dutchmen had two different goal scorers while Quirk ended with four saves and the team's second straight shutout.
