SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Three different Susquehanna University women's soccer players found the back of the net Wednesday afternoon as the River Hawks opened up their home campaign with a win. How It Happened
  • Susquehanna put up 14 shots in the first half but headed into halftime in a scoreless draw as Tara Bender was a wall for the Monarchs, turning away six shots in the first 45 minutes.
  • The River Hawks finally broke through in the 53rd minute when senior midfielder Alee Pettit (Harding, Pa./Wyoming Area) received a slotted pass from sophomore forward Anna Werner (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) on the left side of the penalty box and finished into the lower right corner.
  • SU staked a 2-0 lead at 66:31 as junior forward Kate Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) ripped a low angle shot from outside the right side of the box into the top left corner for her first career goal.
  • Sophomore midfielder Casey Grehan (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) tacked on an insurance goal for Susquehanna in the 73rd minute when Grehan headed in junior forward Kathryn Perlowitz's (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) free kick.
  • The River Hawks would've had more goals on the scoreboard if it wasn't for Bender's stellar play in goal, including stopping several point blank shots and breaking up a fast break.

Inside the Box Score
  • The River Hawks dominated with a 27-1 (13-0 SOG) shot advantage as well as an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.

  • Pettit, Ross, and Grehan all tallied their first goals of the season while Werner dished out her team-leading second assist.

  • Bender finished the match with 10 saves.
