How It Happened
  • The Susquehanna defense held the Colonels to just one shot in the first half.
  • SU made good on its fifth shot of the game in the 18th minute when Werner sent in a low, hard cross from the right side and sophomore forward Sam Chillis (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) one-timed her shot into the lower left corner from about three yards out.
  • Samantha Cecere turned away two shots the rest of the half to keep the River Hawks at a 1-0 halftime advantage.
  • Ten minutes into the second stanza, Susquehanna struck again when first-year midfielder Gillian Maack (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) headed in senior midfielder Alee Pettit's (Harding, Pa./Wyoming Area) for her first collegiate goal.
  • Wilkes earned a corner kick in the 88th minute and the Colonels packed the penalty box to improve their scoring chances but the River Hawks cleared it out to a wide open Werner who broke away for a 70-yard sprint, dodged around to the right of Mikayla Ronczka in the box and put the ball into an empty net.
