River Hawk Women’s Soccer Rolls to Third Consecutive Win

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Eight different players had a hand in the Susquehanna University women's soccer team's 5-1 non-conference road win Saturday night. Susquehanna (5-2) posted a 5-1 victory over the host Delaware Valley College Aggies (1-5-1) for its third win in a row.

How It Happened
  • Susquehanna scored early and often as the River Hawks put up 23 shots, including 18 on target, in 90 minutes of action.
  • Junior forward Kate Ross (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) struck first for SU, finishing off a pass from sophomore forward Sam Chillis (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) in the sixth minute.
  • Sophomore midfielder Casey Grehan (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) sent the River Hawks into halftime with a 2-0 advantage as Grehan notched her second goal of the season off an assist from sophomore defender Marley Clendenin (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase).
  • The second half started with an unassisted goal from junior forward Mady Burns (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) at 57:42.
  • The Aggies avoided the shutout following Sarah Young's unassisted score in the 75th minute.
  • In less than two minutes, Susquehanna tacked on another one when sophomore midfielder Caroline Lewis (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) tallied her second of 2019 as first-year midfielder Gillian Maack (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) assisted on the play.
  • The final River Hawk goal came off the foot of senior forward Hayley Steinmetz (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) in the 90th minute.

  • Susquehanna finished the night with a 23-1 (18-1 SOG) shot advantage as well as a 6-0 corner kick margin, including five in the second half.
 
Top Performers
  • Junior captain Madi Welliver (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run) made no saves in her 45 minutes of action to stretch her scoreless streak to 488:41 minutes. Sophomore Chloe Wieczkowski (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) finished out the match in goal for SU.
  • Haley Young made 13 stops in Delaware Valley's third loss in a row.
