How It Happened
- In the first half, the majority of action was between the 18-yard penalty boxes as the two squads combined for nine shots.
- Sophomore forward Anna Werner (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) finally broke through in the 39th minute when Werner picked up a slot pass from first-year midfielder Gillian Maack (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) in stride and fired it past a diving Alexis Benedetto into the lower right corner.
- The 1-0 River Hawk held into the 73rd minute when Misericordia, who is fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region and received votes in the United States Coaches Top 25, was awarded a penalty kick for a handball in the box. Jordyn Martini stepped up and buried it into the top left corner past junior captain Madi Welliver (Turbotville, Pa./Warrior Run).
- Susquehanna continued to pepper Benedetto but she came up with four saves in the final 17 minutes to force overtime.
- Each side had a quality scoring opportunity in the first overtime period but the goalies were up to the challenge.
- The Cougars had two shots in the second extra frame with Welliver turning away one and the other one flying high over the goal.
- SU generated no offensive attempts in the final 10 minutes and the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
