Three Named to All-Tournament Team as Susquehanna Women’s Soccer Falls to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Forwards Samantha Chillis (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) and Emily Wertz (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) and senior midfielder Katie Beluch (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) were named to the Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team Sunday afternoon following a 1-1 weekend in the Mayor's Cup. The Susquehanna University women's soccer team (2-2) dropped a 4-2 decision today to SUNY Oneonta wrap up action at the tournament.

How It Happened
  • Oneonta jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first 15 minutes of the match with a pair of goals in a three-minute span. The Red Dragons opened up the scoring in the 11th minute on a Micaela Honsinger header followed by Christina Kornfeld's penalty kick conversion in the 14th minute.
  • The River Hawks edged Oneonta, 9-7, in shots in the first half but Celeste Trevellini was tough to beat as Trevellini made eight stops in the first 45 minutes.
  • Ten minutes into the second half, the hosts stretched their lead to 3-0 as Emma Kirkpatrick fired in a tough angled shot from outside the box.
  • Sophomore forward Anna Werner (Mohnton, Pa./Mifflin) helped Susquehanna avoid the shutout when Werner converted a penalty kick of her own in the 80th minute for her second tally of the season.
  • The Red Dragons regained a three-goal cushion in the 89th minute on Deanna Schlott's first goal of 2019 off a Honsinger assist.
  • Chillis cut Susquehanna's deficit in half with her second score of the weekend in the final minute of play.

  • The River Hawks controlled possession with a 22-10 (15-6 on goal) shot advantage as well as a 4-3 margin in corner kicks.
 
Top Performers
  • Chillis finished the weekend with two goals while Wertz contributed an assist in Saturday's win at Hartwick.
  • Sophomore Chloe Wieczkowski (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown) finished the afternoon with two stops.
  • Trevellini was a wall for Oneonta, putting up 12 saves to stymie the SU offense, while Honsinger had a goal and an assist to lead the Red Dragons.
