Dowling’s Career Day Propels River Hawks Women’s Lacrosse to First Win of 2020

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Senior attacker Stephanie Dowling (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) poured in career-highs of six assists and nine points Tuesday afternoon to lead the Susquehanna University women's lacrosse team to their first win of the season. Susquehanna (1-1) picked up a dominant 16-9 non-conference road win over Immaculata University (0-2).

How It Happened
  • Immaculata scored two of the first three goals of the game to lead 2-1 at 23:19 before the River Hawks responded with three consecutive scores for a 4-2 advantage at 21:36.
  • The Mighty Macs got one back 47 seconds later but then Susquehanna broke the game wide open by rattling off six unanswered goals to stake a 10-3 margin at halftime.
  • SU's rapid fire continued at the start of the second half with straight, including a pair in 38 seconds, to stretch its lead to 13-3 with 27:22 remaining in the game.
  • Layne Kennedy breathed life into the Mighty Macs offense as Kennedy tallied five of the game's final nine goals, including all but one of Immaculata's tallies, to make it respectable in IU's second straight loss.

  • Along with her career-bests in assists and points, Dowling collected her 11th career hat trick with three goals on the day.
  • Senior attacker Gabi Toohey (Oradell, N.J./River Dell) led the River Hawks offense with a team-best five goals for her 10th career hat trick.
  • Sophomore attacker Caroline Chase (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) notched her first career hat trick with three goals and two assists while midfielders Tori Lombardi (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany Hills) and Katie Hoerman (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown) each contributed three points on two goals and an assist. Hoerman also added a season-best six draw controls.
  • Senior captain Libby Dex (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scooped up a game-best five ground balls and made four saves in 48:36 minutes of action.
  • Senior defender Caroline Ray (Portland, Maine/Cheverus) paced the defense with six caused turnovers and four ground balls as the River Hawks forced IU into 27 turnovers.
  • Kennedy led the Mighty Macs with a game-best six goals while Emily Schumann came up with 10 stops.
