Knapp Leads River Hawks Baseball at No. 13 Kean

UNION, N.J. – Sophomore Evan Knapp (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) hit safely for the third consecutive game Sunday afternoon as the Susquehanna University baseball team took on No. 13 Kean University. Susquehanna (1-3) dropped its fourth game of the season by a 9-2 decision to the host Cougars (7-2).

How It Happened
  • Kean owned a 7-0 lead through the first six innings with a four-run third inning and three runs in the fifth.
  • The River Hawks finally got on the board in the seventh with two runs thanks to an RBI double by Knapp to score junior Peter Yarem (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), who had led off the inning with a single and went to second on a passed ball. Knapp then came home on a sacrifice fly by senior Justin Miller (Rockaway, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) after advancing to third on a ground out.
  • The Cougars went on to add a run in the seventh and another in the eighth for the 9-2 final.
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Susquehanna mustered seven hits on the afternoon but left seven on base.
  • The River Hawks struggled defensively as well with four errors.
  • Kean collected nine runs on 11 hits, including four extra-base hits, with one error as the Cougars stranded six.
 
Top Performers
  • Knapp went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored while Yarem, senior Anthony Dombrowski (Pompton Plains, N.J./Don Bosco), and sophomore Adam Schreck (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan) were each 1-for-4.
  • Sophomore Dillan Weikel (Beaver Springs, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) suffered the loss on the mound as Weikel (0-2) faced 14 batters in 2.2 innings, walking two and allowing four earned runs on five hits.
  • Collin Kiernan improved to 1-1 as Kiernan struck out six and walked one in 7.0 innings, yielding two runs on five hits. This was the Cougars' fourth consecutive win.
