PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Susquehanna University baseball team split their games on their first day at the Snowbird Baseball Classic in Florida on Monday. Susquehanna (2-4) dropped a close 5-3 decision to No. 24 Marietta College (5-0) before needing extra innings to defeat Baldwin Wallace University (4-4), 5-4, in 10 innings.

How It Happened
- Marietta took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Alex Page, the Pioneers No. 3 hitter, doubled to right center to score Drew Holderbach, who hit a one-out single to centerfield. After a walk to have runners on first and second, Marietta grounded into a double play to end the inning.
- The River Hawks tied it up in the top of the third inning when junior Steve Lorenz (Feasterville-Trevose, Pa./William Penn Charter) connected on a two-out single through the right side to bring home senior Justin Miller (Rockaway, N.J./Seton Hall Prep), who had hit a single through the left side and then stole second. After another single, Nicklaus Brown struck out the last batter with runners on first and third.
- Marietta claimed a 3-1 lead in its half of the third thanks to a pair of two-out RBI singles by Page and Tate Engle. Page also scored a run. Senior Tyson Thrush (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) struck out the next batter to keep it at a two-run deficit.
- Miller crossed home plate once again in the eighth to cut the lead to 3-2 as he came home on a two-out RBI single through the left side off the bat of senior Alex Burman (Wallingford, Pa./Episcopal). Miller had drawn a leadoff walk, stole second and advanced to third on a balk. Gino Sabatino struck out the next batter to hold off the SU rally.
- The Pioneers once again answered in their half of the inning as Brady Cottom cracked a two-out single to right center to drive in two runs and stretch his team's lead to 5-2.
- Junior Peter Yarem (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood), who got on base with a one-out single then went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a single by senior Alex Ranck (Honey Brook, Pa./Twin Valley), scored Susquehanna's final run on a fielder's choice to senior Anthony Dombrowski (Pompton Plains, N.J./Don Bosco).

- Susquehanna collected three runs on eight hits but left six on base while making one error.
- The Pioneers notched five runs on nine hits, including one double, while playing errorless defense. Marietta did strand seven runners on base.
Top Performers
- Burman was the only River Hawk with a multiple-hit performance as he went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
- Thrush (1-1) suffered the loss on the mound after going 6.0 innings with three strikeouts and four walks. He allowed three runs on six hits in facing 26 batters.
- Damian Yenzi and Page each tallied two hits to lead the Pioneers while Page and Cottom each drove in two runs to keep Marietta undefeated.
Susquehanna 5, Baldwin Wallace 4 (10 innings)
How It Happened
- Senior Craig Roumes (Succasunna, N.J./Roxbury) stepped up to the plate in the top of the 10th with the game tied at 4-4 and connected for the game-winning hit, striking a two-out single to right field to score Lorenz, who made contact for a lead-off double.
- Sophomore Jake Ramezzana (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) relieved Grigas and retired the side in order to save the 5-4 victory in 10 innings.
- The Yellow Jackets owned a 2-0 lead after the second inning as a one-out Susquehanna fielding error allowed two runs to score.
- SU got one back in the top of the third when Dombrowski came home on an RBI groundout to the shortstop by Lorenz. Dombrowski had a leadoff walk before stealing second and going to third on a bunt single by junior Chris Corrado (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Tuckahoe).
- The score remained the same until the sixth inning when the River Hawks took a 3-2 lead with a pair of runs on a two-out double to left center by sophomore Evan Knapp (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), bringing home Burman and Yarem. Both had drawn walks in their at-bats.
- The lead was short-lived as Baldwin Wallace picked up two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh on two RBI singles for a 4-3 advantage.
- Susquehanna made it 4-4 in the ninth when Knapp led the inning off with a double down the leftfield line before going to second on a Dombrowski sacrifice bunt and then scoring on a forced out at first.
- Senior Bobby Grigas (Frackville, Pa./North Schuylkill) came in relief of sophomore Ryan Monroy (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Gov. Livingston) and retired the side in order to force extra innings.

- Both teams finished with seven hits in the game while the River Hawks had three extra-base hits to Baldwin Wallace's two.

- Knapp paced SU offensively with three hits in four at-bats while driving in two runs and scoring one.
- Grigas (1-0) picked up the win with 1.0 inning of action as he pitched two ground outs and struck out one in facing three batters.
- Ramezzana earned his first career save with 1.0 inning of action as he also hurled two ground outs and struck one in face three batters.
- Seven different Yellow Jackets picked up a hit as Baldwin Wallace lost for the second time in three games.
