O'Dowd Leads Volleyball To Road Win At Goucher

BALTIMORE, MD (October 13, 2021) -- Senior Riley O'Dowd posted 13 kills on only 22 attempts Wednesday, leading the Susquehanna University volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Goucher College in Landmark Conference play from Decker Sports and Recreation Center. The River Hawks won with scores of 25-12, 25-11 and 25-18. 

The offensive attack for Susquehanna (15-5, 3-1 Landmark) was on full display, as SU hit .340 for the match while chalking up 43 kills on only 97 attempts. The defensive unit was strong as well, as Goucher hit just .018 for the night as SU tallied eight blocks and a dig advantage of 64-44. 

The opening set saw the hosts jump out to a quick start, leading until a 4-1 run by the River Hawks capped by an ace by Keira Roach saw SU tie the set at 10. With the set tied at 12, Susquehanna would finish the stanza on a 13-point spurt powered by six kills from O'Dowd to give the visitors a 1-0 match lead. 

Susquehanna would dominate the second set thanks to its efficiency with the ball, hitting .433 as the Gophers hit -.030 as SU doubled its match lead to 2-0. Rosina Esposito tallied four kills in the set, while Amanda Gore added four kills and two blocks. 

In the third set, both teams traded points before Samantha Balsamo chalked up back-to-back aces to push the River Hawks ahead for good as SU cruised to the victory. Brooke LaCesa had four kills in the third set, while Abby Wagner and Kody Dillon each had two terminations. Balsamo also tallied 10 helpers, two aces and two digs. 

Susquehanna saw Esposito finished with seven kills and 11 digs, while Dillon posted six terminations and four total rejections. Lizzie Herestofa also posted a team-high 20 digs for the River Hawks, and Emily Kyle tallied 10 digs. Madison Rockey also had 15 assists in the win, which was SU's fourth straight and 10th in the last 11.
