Huge Comeback Lifts Men's Soccer To Road Win Over E-Town Saturday

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA (October 16, 2021) -- First-year Max Paczewski scored his fourth career goal in the 60th minute to give the Susquehanna University men's soccer team its first win over Elizabethtown College since 2012 with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in Landmark Conference play from Ira R. Harr Field Saturday.

The win was the first two-goal deficit erased in a win for Susquehanna since October 21, 2008 when SU erased a 2-0 lead at Juniata College in a 5-4 triumph for the then Crusaders. Also, with the victory Susquehanna moved into a three-way tie for second place with Catholic University and Drew University with seven points.

The game didn't start out well for the River Hawks though, as Elizabethtown (8-4-1, 3-1 Landmark) scored only 1:20 into the game on a Ryan Hepler goal. The Blue Jays doubled their lead at 11:25 of the match, as Garrett Winchilla tapped in a rebound of a Cade Brubaker shot to make it 2-0 in favor of the hosts.

That's when the comeback started for the River Hawks, as Adrian Dilascio tallied in the 18th minute off a free kick deflection to make it 2-1. Minutes later, Susquehanna tied the game at two as Michael Morelli headed in a free kick service from Sean Kellogg, beating a charging keeper to the ball for the score.

After halftime, SU would finish off the comeback on an unassisted tally to make it 3-2 in the 60th minute. Elizabethtown had a big scoring chance in the 71st minute, as a Brubaker attempt rattled off the left post and out. That would be the last real scoring chance for either team, as SU held on for the victory.

E-Town led in shots by a 15-9 margin, while earning eight of the game's 10 corner kicks. Dilascio paced the River hawks with three shots, two going on goal, while Morelli added two shots as well. Gerrit Stech finished with three save in the victory for Susquehanna, while Kelvin Del Cid also had three stops for the Blue Jays. SU has now won three straight games, scoring three or more goal in all three.
